Spartanburg Housing and the United Way of the Piedmont are looking for five local volunteers to participate in the AmeriCorps VISTA Summer Associates Program. 

Summer Associates will participate in an eight week service term at Spartanburg Housing to build capacity through direct and indirect service. 

Service will begin 5/24/2021.

Open Positions 

Program Coordinator VISTA 
The AmeriCorps VISTA will help to build capacity of the Spartanburg Housing Summer Food Programs and Youth initiatives by creating neighborhood programs that enable access to community agencies and build educational sustainability through the summer. They will also identify capacity-building opportunities for volunteers, access educational learning programs for students, and assist with the sustainability of the summer food program, and develop ongoing sufficiency tracking of students and family.

Economic Mobility VISTA 
The AmeriCorps VISTA will  connect with individuals who have an interest in Post-Secondary Education, recent high school graduates, and those enrolled in the Family Self-Sufficiency program. 

The AmeriCorps VISTA will work with the Family Self Sufficiency Coordinator to build recruitment within Spartanburg Housing Public Housing and Housing Choice Voucher Families.

They will also improve economic opportunity for families through improved data tracking, department collaboration, and referral opportunities with partnered agencies.

Benefits 
  • A Modest Living Allowance of $36.71 per day or $256.97 per week
  • Leave on federal holidays that are observed by the host site (Spartanburg Housing)
  • Segal AmeriCorps Education Award/ End of Service Summer Stipend upon completion of service term
  • Summer Associates are eligible to be considered for Worker's Compensation under the Federal Employee Compensation Act (FECA)
  • Income Disregard provisions apply to any Summer Associate receiving government benefits.
